A cinematic Unreal Engine 5 action RPG based on Journey to the West — and one of the most GPU-demanding PC games of its generation.
Black Myth: Wukong is Game Science's action RPG inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, casting you as the Destined One retracing the legend of the Monkey King through lush, mythic landscapes. Built on Unreal Engine 5, it makes heavy use of Nanite micro-geometry and Lumen global illumination, and layers on an optional Full Ray Tracing mode that pushes even flagship GPUs hard. Dense foliage, volumetric weather and intricate boss encounters make it one of the most visually demanding titles on PC, so DLSS, FSR and XeSS upscaling — and Frame Generation at higher settings — are effectively essential for a smooth frame rate. A built-in benchmark tool makes it easy to measure and tune performance before diving into the fight.
Built for competitive players who want the highest frame rate and lowest input latency.
Full Ray Tracing off and upscaling in Performance mode for the highest, most stable frame rate. Ideal for high-refresh play and mid-range GPUs that want a fluid fight rather than a postcard.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Image Quality Preset | Low | — |
| Full Ray Tracing | Off | Biggest single FPS win — Lumen software GI is far cheaper than the RT path. |
| Super Resolution Type | DLSS / FSR / XeSS | Pick the one your GPU supports; DLSS on RTX, FSR or XeSS elsewhere. |
| Super Resolution | Performance | Renders at ~50% and reconstructs — large FPS gain at 1440p/4K. |
| Frame Generation | Off | Skip it when chasing lowest input latency. |
| View Distance | Medium | — |
| Global Illumination | Low | Lumen GI is one of the heaviest settings in this engine. |
| Reflection Quality | Low | — |
| Shadow Quality | Low | — |
| Vegetation / Foliage | Low | Dense forests are extremely GPU-heavy — lower this first. |
| Effects Quality | Low | — |
| Texture Quality | High | Cheap on 8GB+ cards and keeps the world readable. |
| Anti-Aliasing (TSR) | Low | — |
| Motion Blur | Off | — |
Maximum visual fidelity for players who prefer the best-looking image.
The Cinematic preset with Full Ray Tracing maxed, held together by upscaling on Quality and Frame Generation. The definitive way to see Wukong — reserved for RTX 4070-class GPUs and above.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Image Quality Preset | Cinematic | — |
| Full Ray Tracing | Very High | Near path-traced lighting and reflections — hugely GPU-intensive. |
| Super Resolution Type | DLSS / FSR / XeSS | — |
| Super Resolution | Quality | Keeps Full Ray Tracing playable while preserving detail. |
| Frame Generation | On | Nearly mandatory to make maxed RT feel smooth at 4K. |
| View Distance | Very High | — |
| Global Illumination | Very High | — |
| Reflection Quality | Very High | — |
| Shadow Quality | Very High | — |
| Vegetation / Foliage | Very High | Dense, fully-shadowed foliage is the heaviest raster load in the game. |

| Post-Processing | Cinematic | — |
| Texture Quality | Very High | — |
| Motion Blur | On | — |
The sweet spot between frame rate and visuals. Drag the slider to shift the balance.
High raster settings with upscaling on Quality and Frame Generation enabled — the sweet spot where the world looks striking without collapsing the frame rate. A great everyday default on RTX 3060-class hardware and up.
| Setting | Value | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Image Quality Preset | High | — |
| Full Ray Tracing | Off | Reserve the RT path for the Graphics profile — it is very costly here. |
| Super Resolution Type | DLSS / FSR / XeSS | — |
| Super Resolution | Quality | Renders at ~67% — near-native clarity with a solid FPS gain. |
| Frame Generation | On | Roughly doubles displayed FPS; wants a ~60fps base to feel good. |
| View Distance | High | — |
| Global Illumination | Medium | — |
| Reflection Quality | Medium | — |
| Shadow Quality | Medium | — |
| Vegetation / Foliage | Medium | Biggest lever in the forested chapters — nudge down if frames dip. |
| Effects Quality | High | — |
| Post-Processing | High | — |
| Texture Quality | High | — |
| Motion Blur | Off | — |

How is this calculated?Safe, technically-sound tips to get the most out of Black Myth: Wukong.
Run the built-in Benchmark Tool after any settings change — it gives a repeatable average and percentile FPS so you can tune safely instead of guessing in combat.
Upscaling is the single biggest, safest performance lever: enable DLSS on RTX cards (or FSR / XeSS on other GPUs) at Quality before you start lowering visual settings.
Reserve Frame Generation for when your base frame rate is already around 60fps; it smooths motion dramatically but feels sluggish when the underlying framerate is low.
Full Ray Tracing is extremely GPU-heavy — leave it Off for high frame rates and only enable it (paired with upscaling) on RTX 4070-class GPUs and above.
Vegetation/Foliage and Global Illumination are the heaviest raster settings in the forest areas — drop these a notch first before touching Texture Quality.
Keep Texture Quality high if you have 8GB+ VRAM, but watch for VRAM-related stutter at 4K with RT — lower the upscaling preset or textures a notch if you see hitching.
