GAMERSPECS ESTIMATE

On a mid-range RTX 4060 or RX 7600, Gears of War: E-Day averages about 57 FPS at 1080p; an entry-level RTX 2060 or RX 6600 averages about 50 FPS, and a high-end RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX hits the processor limit of about 119 FPS.

The publisher's recommended spec relies on Quality upscaling (1440p at 60 FPS on High), so its card looks lighter than it is. Figures here take that back out: they are at High, the preset the publisher states, at native resolution, using the median of measured preset and upscaling ratios (modelled).

What limits performance in Gears of War: E-Day

Hardware ray tracing decides whether Gears of War: E-Day runs at all; after that, the graphics card's ray-tracing speed sets the frame rate.

Graphics card (GPU)

Ray tracing required

Cards without ray-tracing hardware (every GeForce GTX, and Radeon RX 5000 or older) can't start Gears of War: E-Day. On the rest, ray-tracing speed sets the frame rate: 60 FPS at 1080p needs about an RTX 4060 or RX 6650 XT.

Processor (CPU)

Limits above ~119 FPS

In Tom's Hardware's testing at 1080p, Gears of War: E-Day levels off at about 119 FPS with a Ryzen 5 7600X and about 169 with the fastest processor tested (Ryzen 7 9800X3D): past that point, a faster graphics card adds nothing. The FPS calculators work the limit out for your own processor. Source: Tom's Hardware

Video memory (VRAM)

Not stated

The publisher doesn't state a video memory requirement, so we don't estimate one.

Settings to lower first in Gears of War: E-Day

  1. 1Upscaling (DLSS, FSR or XeSS) first. Ray tracing can't be switched off in Gears of War: E-Day, so rendering fewer pixels is the biggest saving available.
  2. 2Then shadows and volumetric effects (fog, clouds, lighting): in most games these cost the most frame rate after ray tracing itself.
  3. 3Texture quality last: it costs little frame rate as long as your card has enough video memory.
  4. 4Above about 119 FPS, graphics settings stop helping: the processor is the limit there. Settings that add work for the processor, such as crowd density, are the ones to lower if Gears of War: E-Day has them.
